What does this test check?
Prothrombin time (PT) measures how long blood takes to clot. The INR is the same result expressed on a standard scale, so it can be compared between labs.
People on warfarin or acenocoumarol need regular INR checks to keep the dose safe. The test is also done before surgery or procedures, and in liver disease, because the liver makes the clotting factors.
