What does this test check?
LH (luteinising hormone) comes from the pituitary gland. In women it triggers the release of an egg each month; in men it tells the testes to make testosterone.
Doctors usually order it with FSH, on day 2 to 5 of the period. A raised LH compared with FSH is one of the patterns seen in PCOS. In men, LH helps find the cause of low testosterone.
