What does this test check?
HOMA-IR (Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance) is a score worked out from your fasting insulin and fasting blood sugar. A higher score means your body needs more insulin to keep sugar normal.
It helps doctors spot insulin resistance early, before diabetes sets in, and to follow how it improves with weight loss, exercise and treatment. Your doctor reads the score along with your weight, waist size and other reports.
