What does this test check?
A stool routine examination looks at the colour and consistency of the stool and checks under the microscope for pus cells, red cells, worms, their eggs and parasites such as amoeba and giardia.
It is ordered for loose motions, stomach pain, blood or mucus in the stool and suspected worm infection in children. Stool culture can be added if your doctor suspects a bacterial infection.
